DB: As opticians, we think of ourselves as "completing the circle" in eyecare. What does The Vision Council offer the American optician? AM: I would urge opticians to invest in themselves and their careers and attend our Vision Expo. The show is truly a touchstone for opticianry and the critical role opticians play in completing the circle. Expo showcases everything opticianry touches, from fashion to function to healthcare. You will be dazzled, encouraged and inspired by the ideas and connections you will make. On the education side, Vision Expo's conference program strives to help opticians hone their craft, improve the customer experience and learn new skills. I would also encourage opticians to engage with The Vision Council on social media. We have several campaigns throughout the year that drive consumers to seek out eyewear and solutions to common vision issues, such as digital eye strain. Our National Sunglasses Day campaign in June was bigger than ever, so much so that it trended on Twitter all day. We are constantly promoting the latest lens technology and most current seasonal fashion trends. DB: The Vision Council has partnered with the Opticians Association of America at Vision Expo West this year. Can you speak to that? AM: This year, we were thrilled to create a partnership with OAA so that more opticians could experience Vision Expo. OAA members took advantage of exclusive education discounts and lunch vouchers as well as valuable travel discounts to help defray the costs of attending. Vision Expo exhibitors and our attendees are eager to engage with and meet opticians. We hope to continue working with OAA to ensure that the event is a valuable and approachable proposition for opticians. DB: As in many professions today, we are concerned for the survival of the independent practitioner. Where does The Vision Council see independent opticianry in the future? AM: We are carefully watching the trends in the retail
