1 2 T wo notable awards were presented at Opticians Associa- tion of America's (OAA's) Leadership Conference this past February. The winner of the 2017 Website of the Year was the Opticians Association of Vermont (OAV). Their innova- tive website provides an impressive amount of information for OAV members and those interested in all aspects of vision and eye health. Great job OAV! The OAA State Leader of the Year Award is presented an- nually to honor someone who exemplifies dedication, integrity and honorable service to the opticianry profession, the OAA and to their home state. OAA presents the award to highlight the winner's lifetime of service and spirit to enhancing opti- cianry everywhere. The winner of the 2017 State Leader of the Year was Michi- gan's Sue Shire . Sue has been involved in opticianry since 1977. She joined the Opticians Association of Michigan (OAM) in 2001, served as membership chair, vice president and then president. She helped start the student program for OAM, bringing students to leadership and adding a student board member. Sue attended her first Leadership Conference in 2006 and has since served four years as a director for the Opticians Association of America, serving on the state association com- mittee, branding committee and communications committee. She is also a regular contributor to American Optician mag- azine and a participant in the collaboration forum. Sue has served in many roles, both seen and unseen. Her ded- ication, quiet persistence and incredible work ethic have con- tributed enormously to our pro- fession. Thank you Sue Shire! Dibby Bartlett is OAA's Second Vice-President.
